Flame sleeves and oversized graphics... my vintage NASCAR obsession

Sophie Orlich

Like many people with a dad who did a mild midlife crisis, my dad drives Harley’s. He’s a big guy so his t’s are XXLs and I started stealing his Harley Davidson shirts a few years ago, just two or three, nothing he’d notice right? Then I picked up a few of my own on the secondhand market. The next natural progression along the Americana graphic T path is NASCAR. I have one NASCAR short sleeve I got in Nashville a few years ago and wildly overpaid for but if there’s one thing I don’t have patience for at a thrift store its the t-shirt racks.

I work remote and love a sweats and graphic tshirt to do my design work from my couch. They’re comfy but fashion enough to look cool when I run to the grocery store or on my mental health walk in the park. The long sleeve NASCAR t’s almost all have sleeve designs which I LOVE. I bought a perfect one last year that has red sleeve stripes and its so good I haven’t let myself buy another but these are just so tempting…
