Porto, Portugal
Believe it or not—you can do a day trip to Porto from Lisbon. I suggest an 8am flight out and an 8pm flight back… easily done if booked in advance on TAP and for less than €90. Its a long day but worth it if you’re short on time.
A note about LIS, the Lisbon International Airport. Its very small, only 2 terminals. You can get there for less than €15 in a cab (15 mins from city center) or €1.50 on the subway (30 mins). For this inter-country flight with no checked bags, you absolutely do not need to get there 2 hours in advance. Especially if you get that early flight, security will be a breeze and most of the energy/time is all the walking it takes to get to the gate. You will probably have ample time if you arrive 1hr from gates closing, especially if you’ve been to the airport before and just have a backpack. You don’t take off shoes in security and its really automated, no one checks your passport until you’re boarding the plane and with TAP you can check in advance and get a digital ticket so you can go straight to security as soon as you arrive.
9am - land in Porto, take a cab to the walking tour meeting point, grab a coffee and pastry while looking around before tour
10:30am - free walking tour with Porto Walkers. I really enjoyed my guide and the group and felt we covered all the highlights. The guide was also super helpful giving me a lot of specific advice and suggestions for my quick trip.
1pm - Grab lunch at the end of the tour at anywhere that looks good. I strongly suggest getting sangria.
3pm - Meet the Port wine tour group
7pm - Dip out early from the tour to grab a cab and make it back to the airport for your 8:30pm flight back to Lisbon
10pm - Arrive back at your home
