Ecuador

A trip to the equator is not complete without a side trip to the Galapagos Islands.

I visited Ecuador in 2017 to visit a friend who was in the Peace Corp. I’d never been and it was such an amazing experience. I flew into Quito and started my trip with a walking tour, which I always recommend. The next day I took a day trip to the equator which, while touristy as expected, was still pretty cool. I found the food and accommodation in Ecuador to be really affordable!

The Galapagos Islands

For the weekend

I flew from Guayaquil to the Galapagos at the end of the week. The flight was about 2hrs and cost the same as my flight from Dallas to Quito–go figure.

I did a day trip that visited several islands by boat with some scuba diving and it was awesome! I made some friends actually. We saw lots of fish and even encountered a seal family who swam with us! It was magical. The food on the island was good, I used yelp to find spots. There was an open street that had tables outside and everything looked great. Food was quite affordable on the island I thought! I mean more expensive than mainland Ecuador but affordable still with USD.
