Dallas, TX

General Recommendations from a (Former) Local

Giving recommendations for the place you grew up is always a little awkward cause where do I eat when I go back to Dallas? At my parents’ house. But here are the top general suggestions if you’re visiting the best city in Texas.

Food

Torchy’s Tacos - a Texas-based tex-mex taco chain with $5 margs and the most amazing queso in town. Tacos are also incredible. Its my #1 stop when I land and my whole family is happy to oblige. (pictured above)

Rise nº1 - I use any excuse to go to this place. Its so cozy, and so damn good.

BuzzBrews Kitchen - multiple locations, really solid place for breakfast and brunch, diner-style

Zoe’s Kitchen - Fast food that’s fresh and delish, there are several locations across the metroplex. I love the salads and chicken skewers.

Monkey King Noodle Company - One of the few legit noodle spots in Dallas, so good and so simple.

Activities

Klyde Warren Park - A real treat, nice to walk around and occasionally they have events. Most days there are food trucks.

MOMA - Fab modern art museum, very well funded.

Deep Ellum - Recently gentrified neighborhood east of downtown. A little grungy still, lots of great spots to pop into.

Bishop Arts District - Really just one strip of boutiques in south Dallas, also in the gentrification process but a nice way to spend the afternoon.
